Me? HI! My name is Apryl. I am Bronx, New Yorker, dwelling in the County of Kings. I'm a self-taught creative with a hands-on approach to art. What do I mean by hands-on? Well, whether I'm whipping up a batch of soap, soldering a necklace, or just talking and talking, my hands are always involved.

So you might be wondering how I got here. After getting a fresh coat of paint in the living room, I decided new window treatments were in order. My dining room windows are HUGE—and I wanted to show them off... and window panels can be very expensive. After seeing my online options, I decided that I would sew my own panels. There were a couple of problems: Not only did I not know how to sew, I didn't even own a sewing machine. Sounds simple enough, right? Somehow, I convinced my boyfriend to buy me a sewing machine. He was definitely apprehensive because he didn’t think I would actually use it.

But, yeah, I use it... a LOT. I sewed pillow cases, floor poufs, napkins and more. And after looking at hundreds of fabrics and confusing the crap outta myself, I wondered, what if I just make my own designs on curtains. Like, actually make my own fabric. And with the stroke of some keys, I discovered block printing!

What is block printing, you ask?

Block Printing is one the oldest forms of printing. This technique involves creating a stamp that you press onto paper, cloth, or another material using ink. Stamps can be made of linoleum or rubber blocks. Pressure is applied to the stamp with a press, brayer, or your hands. You can make limited editions or hundreds of prints. Quite like life, block printing can be messy and unpredictable. Just when you think you messed up; you create something more beautiful than you envisioned.
