Across the back, a partial quote from her “To My People” letter, published in 1973, is printed in red—a reminder of her words, her struggle, and her unwavering connection to her people.

The navy, red, and white palette pays homage to the Cuban flag, referencing Cuba’s role in granting Assata Shakur political asylum. A Cuban flag patch completes the piece, making the connection unmistakable.
